J. R. Ervin, age 55, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his home. He was born Nov. 29, 1963 in Blytheville, Arkansas, son of the late Robert Donald Ervin, Sr. and Sandra Kay Reed Ervin.
J.R. was a 1982 graduate of Wellston High School, where he excelled in all sports. Following graduation, J.R. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, for which he served his country from 1982-1986. He was a former employee of Merillat Industries, as well as Complete General Construction, where he worked as a superintendent for 23 years. J.R. also loved farming, which he continued to do right up until the end of his life. He was a member of the Orphans Friends Masonic Lodge #275 in Wilkesville; the American Legion Post #371 of Wellston; and J.R. was more than an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes….Go Bucks!
He is survived by son, Lafe Benjamin “Ben” Ervin of Wellston; daughter, Brooke Ashley Galloway (Craig) of Piketon; grandchildren, Gracie and Jackson Galloway; longtime loving companion, Terri Allen of Wellston; sisters, Rhonda Duncan of Mechanicsburg, Stephanie Manring (Russ) of Hamden, and Kelly Taylor (Lee) of Urbana; aunt, Barb House of Wellston; his extended family, Jen and Jeff Yetter, and their children, Griffin and Avery, of Hilliard, Ashley Allen of Grandview, and Matt Allen of Columbus; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Celebration of Life service, with military honors, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. In keeping with J.R.’s wishes, cremation will follow the service and private burial will be beside his parents in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
