Charles Eugene “Gene” Martin, 91, of Fostoria passed away at 10:20 p.m. on May 21, 2022, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay. He was born April 2, 1931, to Clyde L. and Ida L (Radcliff) Martin in Jackson, Ohio.
Gene was a proud veteran having served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning from war, he worked for his brother at the Martin Block Plant where he served as a foreman in Jackson, Ohio. Gene married Martha Lucille Crago in 1965 and moved to Fostoria, where he retired from Seneca Wire in 1967, and where he was known as “Charlie.” Mr. and Mrs. Martin were married for 55 years as of December 2021. He was a former member of Fostoria Baptist Church, and presently a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Findlay. His favorite hobby was showing his 1940 Ford Convertible in car shows. He never neglected church for a car show because he was very devoted to his faith.
Gene is survived by his wife, Martha “Lucy;” one brother, Richard “Dick,” of Jackson, Ohio; daughter, Debbie West, of Jackson, Ohio; son, Kim Anthony Martin, of California; and grandson, Julian Waldron. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Loren Clyde Martin; and sister, Winifred Abele Phillips.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. with pastors David Chapman and Gordon Dickson presiding Committal services and burial will follow in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, with military honors provided by the Fostoria United Veterans.
