Elizabeth J. “Janie” Smith, age 61, of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Huston Nursing Home in Hamden, Ohio. She was born in Jackson County on Dec. 14, 1955 to the late Hubert and Alice (Mullins) Vance. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Curtis Miller, Jimmy Vance, Louie Vance and Chester Vance.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Dana K. Smith; sons: Dana H. Smith, Shannon L. Smith (Tasha Vansickle) and Jeffrey (Shasta) Smith; four grandchildren: Bethanie, Jaden, Josiah and Madison; one great-grandchild, Grayson; a brother, James McDonald; a sister, Rosie Johnson; step-grandchildren: Alex, Brice, Tristan and Allison; and one step great-grandchild, Olivia.
Janie was a member of the Oakland Holiness Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and preacher intercessor. She was employed as a clerk in various stores in Jackson. She was also employed at Comfort Inn. Janie enjoyed cooking, sewing and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson with Pastor Lela Grace Christian officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 25, from 4 to 8 p.m.
