Tanya D. Barnhouse, 59, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, April 16, 2020, at Holzer Medical Center-Jackson ER. She was born in Pomeroy, Ohio, on Nov. 25, 1960, to the late Francis and Clara Custer Lightfoot. She was a 1978 graduate of Meigs Local School District and began her career as a clerk at Dutton Drug Store in Middleport where she met her future husband, Roger.
She studied Licensed Practical Nursing at Buckeye Hills Career Center from 1980 to 1981 and received her Associates degree as an LPN. She was a former co-owner of Barney’s Drug Store in Wellston from 1984 to 1999. She owned the Chalet Gift Shop in Nags Head, North Carolina, from 1995 to 2010. For the past seven years and up until now, she and her husband sold arts and crafts items at the Mason Jar in Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia. She loved to work on crafts and paint in her spare time.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Roger Barnhouse; a son, Charlie (Allysa) Barnhouse of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; a daughter, Mallory (Justin) Kupfer of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren: Willow and Aspen Barnhouse and Trippton Kupfer; a brother, John (Sue) Lightfoot of Middleport, Ohio; a sister, Barbara (Max) Grueser of Shade, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Restricted visitation will be on Sunday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston. Please use side porch, wait near doors, and keep social distancing until access is allowed. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Barnhouse family has chosen a private service beginning at 2 p.m. at the Jenkins Chapel with Reverend Hannah Niday officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
