Ivan L. Taylor, age 93, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016. He was born in Cheshire, Ohio on April 27, 1923 to the late Charles and Edna (Rife) Taylor, the second of 11 children.
He is survived by sons: Jack (Carolyn Phillips) Taylor of Groveport, Ohio, Rich (Judy Johnson) Taylor of Gahanna, Ohio, Kenny (Mary Coll) Taylor of Jackson, Ohio, and Mark (Minnie Skinner) Taylor of Jackson, Ohio; daughter, Denise Taylor Pastor of Oak Hill, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Taylor of Jackson, Ohio; sisters: Doris Miller of Oak Hill, Ohio, Mary Dameron of Waverly, Ohio, and Edie Ridgeway of Jackson, Ohio; sister-in-law, Helen Taylor of Jackson, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Shirley Taylor of Jackson, Ohio and brother-in-law, Dwight McGhee; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and his Nazarene Church family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Patsy Grimes Taylor; son, Steve Taylor; brothers: Bus Taylor, Harold Taylor, and Clyde Taylor; and sisters: Alice Brisker, Dorothy Lewis, and Grace McGhee; and step-mother, Evelyn Taylor.
Ivan served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 during WW II in Germany and France with the 3rd Army, 70th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, L Company 274 as a Staff Sergeant. He was very proud of his service to his country and was able to return to Germany and France many years later with his son, Jack, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Taylor, and many of his comrades. He was humbled by the people of France, and how they honored them with parades.
Ivan was employed many years at Jisco in Jackson and then retired from Plibrico of Oak Hill. He was Post Commander of the Beaver VFW 9942, and was also a member of the honor guard of the Jackson DAV Post #45 for many years. He was also a proud member of the Jackson Nazarene Church.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors at the C. M. Cemetery.
