Dean W. Swingle, age 82, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born August 7, 1934 in Akron, Ohio to the late James Wilbur Swingle and Georgia Howe Swingle.
Dean was a 1953 graduate of Jackson High School and a veteran of the United State Army and the Air Force Reserves. Dean, an Engineering Technician, retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in Chillicothe, where he was employed for 36 years. He was a former longtime member of the E.U.B. Church and Trinity United Methodist Church in Wellston, and in recent years, was a member of the Wellston Church of the Nazarene.
Dean is survived by his wife, and high school sweetheart whom he married on March 27, 1957, Diane Hill Swingle; children, Darren Swingle (Brenda) of Chillicothe, Dawn Duffield (Gene) of Williamstown, West Virginia; Douglas James Swingle (Jessica) of Hillsboro, and David Swingle (Karen) of Wheelersburg; sister-in-law, Joanne Swingle of Springfield, Missouri; as well as six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dean was preceded in death by brother, Hubert Swingle, and sister, Rebecca Hodgson.
In keeping with Dean’s wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service, with military honors, will be held Thursday, December 1 at 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with Pastor Don Fairchild officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the memorial service.
