Marjorie Ely Burke, 95, of Wellston, passed away, following a brief illness, on Monday, February 15, 2016, at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson. She was born on May 9, 1920 in Wellston, Ohio, daughter of the late Fred and Vonnie (Melvin) Ely.
Marjorie was a 1938 graduate of Wellston High School. She was a lifelong member of Hope United Methodist Church and also a member of the Wellston Historical Society. Marjorie enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing. She handcrafted most of her clothes and served as a most talented seamstress, tailoring suits and other apparel over the years. Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her beloved family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Terry Snider of Wellston; grandson, Steven B. Snider of Wellston; her niece, Cheryl (James) Harless Waldron of Cincinnati; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert C. Burke; her sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Chet Harless; as well as her uncle, Conger Melvin; and many friends.
A funeral service celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston, with Pastor Leland Brehm officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 2 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions in Marjorie’s name may be made to the Hope United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 620, Wellston, Ohio 45692.
