Kenneth Ray Perko, age 68, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born October 24, 1946 in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Frank and Creola Covington Perko.
Ken was a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a 22-year member of the United Mine Workers Local Union 1857. He was known for his big personality and even bigger heart and was a wonderful husband, dad and Pappy. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years: Karen Hastings Perko; his 3 children: Kelly (Don) Urse, Kassandra Perko and Kevin Perko; 8 grandchildren: Derek and Andrew Perko, Lauren and Madelyn Urse, Kaylee Sickles, Makya, Kenna and Kanon Perko; brothers: Frank (Mary Ann) Perko, Richard “Dick” (Holly) Perko, Raymond Perko, Harry Perko and Timothy (Sharon) Perko; sister: Kathleen (Fred) DePasquale; brothers-in-law: Jack Matusek and William “Bill” (Sue) Hastings; and sister-in-law: Jo (Jack) Sisson. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arleen Matusek.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Donald Maroon officiating and burial to follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Rosary following at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saints Peter and Paul Church, 229 South New York Avenue, Wellston, Ohio.
