Fred Steven “Steve” Thomas was born April 8, 1955 to Fred and Emma Gertrude (Swearinger) Thomas in Scioto County. He grew up on a farm in Rubyville. Steve passed away at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 9, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jane Ann (Thomas) Hiatt and Sharon Kay (Thomas) Alexander; one niece, Kay Ann Alexander and one nephew, Daniel Alexander.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lynn (Davis) Thomas and son, Fred Steven Thomas II, both of Las Vegas; one daughter, Natasha (Kerry) Shelton and granddaughter, Ela Emily K, all of Jackson; sister, Katherine (David) Seamen of Florida; one niece, Connie (Chuck) Pearce and their children, Jessica and Tyler, and grandchildren, all of Indiana; two brothers-in-law, Bob Alexander and Darwin Hiatt, both of Florida; along with many other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Steve was a hard worker, putting in 25 years of service to the City of Jackson and nearly 10 years of service to the City of Las Vegas. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a carpenter, an electrician, and a self-proclaimed musician. He enjoyed listening to music and playing on his guitar. He enjoyed playing as hard as he worked. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him.
Funeral service will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson on Monday, May 18 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, May 17 from 4 to 8 p.m.
