Dan H. Lockard, Jr., age 60, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born May 27, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Dan Hamilton Lockard, Sr. and Norma Mae Kisor Lockard.
Dan was a 1972 graduate of Wellston High School and received his Associates Degree in engineering from Hocking Tech in 1973. He was a Wellston businessman and a dedicated civic and community leader. Dan was the plant manager of the Wellston Aerosol Manufacturing in Wellston, where he was employed for over 45 years. His passion in life was his family, his profession, scouting, Rotary, Masons and the town of Wellston.
Dan was a member and the current President of the Wellston Rotary Club. He also held the office of President from 1991 to 1992. Dan held the honor of being a Paul Harris Fellow and was the recipient of the Cliff Dochterman award given by Rotary International for his work and dedication to the Boy Scouts of America. He also headed various committees in the Rotary Club, including the recent drive to replace all of the street signs in the city of Wellston. He entertained the community for several years as an end man for the Rotary Minstrel Show.
Dan was a member and past president of the Wellston Chamber of Commerce. He always made sure all the Christmas lights for the city were put up and taken down every year, along with help from his elves. In 1993, Dan was named the Wellston Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year. He was a 25 year veteran of the Boy Scouts of America, having served in various positions with Boy Scout Troop #57, Cub Scouts, as well as various district and council positions. He was a Silver Beaver recipient and a James E. West recipient. Dan was member and past Worshipful Master of the Black Diamond Lodge #538 F&AM and was a past President of the Wellston City School Board of Education.
He is survived by his mother, Norma Lockard of Wellston; his high school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Sharon Dixon Lockard, whom he married on September 15, 1973; daughter, Dana Wiseman (Bart) of Wellston; son, Jay Lockard (Kristine) of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Bailey Dupree, Cordelia Lockard and Barton Wiseman; sisters, Carol Rupert of Wellston and Susan Brandeberry (Roger) of Gallipolis; brother, Tad Lockard (Debi) of Jackson, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Dan Lockard, Sr. and his brother-in-law, John Paul Rupert.
Calling hours will be Friday from 12 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with John Pelletier, CLP officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
