Dwight L. Rowland, age 90, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away on November 30, 2014 at Holzer Medical Center – Jackson ER. He was born on August 3, 1924 in Ross County, Ohio to the late George E. and Thelma (Layton) Hooks Rowland.
He is survived by his daughter, Georgia Conley; sisters: Marjorie Sims, Kathryn (Gene) Schliech, Ellen (Charles) Rittenger, Ruth (Ed) James; granddaughter, Colleen (Troy) Fowler, and great-granddaughter, Grace Carolyn Fowler; along with several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special friends, Norma Beatty and Sam and Heidi (Wallace) Vititoe.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn; daughter, Colleen June Rowland; brother, George Rowland, Jr.; sisters, Doris “Dotty” Tomlinson and Geneva “Ginny” Rhoades, and brothers-in-law, Clyde Sims, Jerry Tomlinson, and Bill Rhoades.
Dwight served in WW II with the 171st Combat Engineers, Company B from 1943 to 1946. He was a graduate of Jackson High School Class of 1942; a member of the DAV Chapter 45 where he served as adjutant general and membership chairman; a member of the Limerick Grange and the Southern Ohio Arts Council; and a trustee with UAW Union 402, serving on the recreation committee. He bred and raced standardbred horses and was a member of the Madison County Fair Board.
Funeral services will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio on Thursday, December 4, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ronnie Warrens officiating. Friends will be received two hours prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the Rosehill Burial Park, 4781 S. Charleston Pike, Springfield, Ohio at 2:30 p.m.
