Melba Jane Davis Long, 80, of Wellston, passed away at 7:32 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014, at her home. Born July 4, 1934, in Jackson, she was the daughter of the late Frank Preston Davis and Mary Elizabeth Spearry Davis. Her family and friends called her Jane and she was a very kind and loving lady.
Jane is survived by her four children, Harold W. Long (Earlene Hobbs) of Gallipolis; Judy K. Long, Glendon E. Long and Michael A. Long all of Wellston; a granddaughter, Karen L. Long of Gallipolis; grandsons, David A. Long (Jessica) of Jackson, Christopher M. Long (Daphne) and Anthony H. Long (Melissa) both of Gallipolis; a daughter-in-law, Elsie R. Long of Crown City; and four great-grandsons and eight great-granddaughters.
Also surviving are her three sisters, Hazel Sorrell, Marlene Haydon and Ida Ruth Nettles; a brother, Gary Davis (Catherine); her special friends, Shannon McCarter and her son Cannon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael E. Long, the son of Harold and Elsie Long; her sister, Mabel Graham; three husbands, Leonard Wayne Long, Elmer Rhodes and Harley Dutcher; three brothers-in-law; and her best friend, Mildred Hill.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral Home in Wellston. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Dave Fry, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. and burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements for Jane Long have been entrusted to the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral Home.
