James Edwin Swingle, age 82, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Holzer Medical Center in Jackson. Jim was born December 5, 1930, to the late Odis and Pauline Minard Swingle. He was a member of The United States Air Force. He worked for Dallas Automotive Group for 44 years where he retired. He was a member of the Jackson Rotary Club for many years and was a Paul Harris award recipient. He was a very loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandather as well as a true friend to many.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Lou McGinnis Swingle; daughter, Deneda (Steve) Carl of Wellston; sons, Jim (Marlene) Swingle of Oak Hill and Robert (Terri) Swingle of Jackson; grandchildren, Kerry (Chad) Jenkins of Jackson, Evan (Alana) Carl of Wellston, Derrick and Patrick Carl of Wellston, Tonja Bixler of Oak Hill, Jamie Swingle of Oak Hill, Steven, Zack, Marissa Edwin (EJ) and Drew Swingle of Oak Hill; great-grandchildren, Geoffrey and Stephen Jenkins, Maddox Carl, Marlena and Jamie Bixler, Raleigh, Tyler and Layne Swingle; brother, Frank (Linda) Swingle of Jackson; sister, Shirley Priest of Jackson; sister-in-law, Barbara Swingle of Jackson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Ann; brother, Kenneth Swingle; grandson, Jared Foster and brother-in-law, Jim Priest.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Anderson officiating and burial to follow in the Fairmount Cemetery. Friends were to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s name can be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 124 Locust Street, Jackson Ohio 45640.
