Darin Duane Downey, age 47, of Jackson, died suddenly on June 26, 2013 in Jackson. He was born February 9, 1966, to Sherry (Kearns) Downey and Donald (Donnie) Downey. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1984. He was a mason by trade and Superintendent for the Stebbins Engineering and Manufacturing Company, where he maintained employment for the last 28 years.
He was given an award by Stebbins for being the youngest superintendent and attaining that position in the shortest amount of time. His job with Stebbins afforded him the opportunity to travel to many states where he could always be found after work or days off hunting or fishing. Darin was an avid outdoorsman and loved to cook as well, making sure to share his game with his co-workers as he often prepared it on site.
Darin was preceded in death by his father, Donald Downey; grandfather, Donald K. Downey; grandfather, John (Jack) Kearns; and grandmother, Ruth Kearns.
Darin is survived by his mother, Sherry (Ray) Poynor; grandmother, Jackie Downey; daughters, Holli and Shayna Downey; grandsons, Brenden and Ali Mayhew; brother, Wade Downey; sisters, Megan (Bruce) Silvia, Hannah (Jeremy) Bachtel, and Kate (Trent) Douthett; step-sister, Kris (Jeff) Miller; several nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson. The service will be officiated by the family.
