Phyllis Jean Fisher Hammond of Jackson, Ohio departed this life for a much better one on Sunday, September 2, 2012. She was born August 9, 1930 and lived her entire life in Jackson. At the time of her death she was a resident of Jenkins Nursing Home in Wellston.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bob Hammond, and their daughter Candace Dale Hammond. Also preceding her were her parents, Roy and Mary Lucy Fisher; sisters, Margaret Maerker and Hazel Boylan, and brother, Elton Fisher and sister-in-law, Margaret Kimble whom she thought of as a sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Batey (Tim); grandsons, Steven B. Sickles (Candy) and Jason W. Sickles (Beth), all of Jackson. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Shawn Sickles (USAF, NM) and Ethan and Kassidy Sickles and step-great grandson, Don Bush, all of Jackson; and her sister, Helen Rice (Wayne) of Jackson also survives.
She was a graduate of Jackson High School and worked at the Hercules Trouser Co. at both the Jackson and Wellston plants, Steeles Greenhouse, Green Leaf Florist, Jackson High School and Buckeye Hills Career Center.
Phyllis was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Jackson. Her family was her life. She really enjoyed her grandsons and great-grandchildren who could do no wrong in her eyes. She loved to read her Bible and she lived her faith every day, and she was such an example to all who were around her. She touched many lives in her quiet way and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson with Rev. Wendell Vermillion officiating and burial to follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
