Dr. Kent Mills White, D.D.S., age 70, went to be with the Lord, whom he had served so many years through his music, on Saturday, September 22 at The Four Winds Nursing Facility.
He was born on November 26, 1941, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to William and Maxine Corriell White. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Jackson. Kent graduated from Jackson High School in the Class of 1959, from Ohio University with a B.S. Degree and then from The Ohio State School of Dentistry. He served as a Captain in the Army for several years before returning to Jackson and going into practice with Dr. Edward Michael.
Kent served as organist and later as choir director and organist for a total of over 51 years at Christ United Methodist Church. He retired from both his dental practice and as choir director just in the past year due to poor health. He was a member of the Jackson Rotary Club and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
He is survived by his beloved cocker spaniel, Annie; cousins: Bill Davis of Topeka, Kansas; Ted White of Mansfield, Ohio; Susan White Riepenhoff of Atlanta, Georgia; Sandra White Johnson of Woodbury, Georgia; and Millie Davis Oliver of Jackson, as well as their children and grandchildren, and many close and devoted friends.
The funeral service will be at The Christ United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 28 with Rev. David Roach officiating and under the direction of the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. preceding the service, with interment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Kent’s name can be sent to Christ United Methodist Church, 150 Portsmouth Street, Jackson.
