Pearl Eugene “Red” Hutchinson

Pearl Eugene “Red” Hutchinson, age 88, of Wellston, went to be with his Lord on Sunday morning, Nov. 26, 2017 from his home, with his loving family beside him. He was born Jan. 7, 1929 in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Arthur O. Hutchinson and Florence Donahue Hutchinson.

Gene retired after 42 years from Napper Trucking and J-Mar Coal Trucking. All of his trucker friends called him “Clawhammer.” He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Wellston. Gene loved to ride in the country enjoying nature’s beauty. He also loved dancing and watching football, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, with his sons. Gene was loved and respected by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Donnie; sons, Tony Hutchinson (Sara) and Randy Hutchinson (Kristi), both of Wellston, along with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor David Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
