Shirley Sue (McDowell) McCorkle, age 75, of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at the SOMC Hospice Center of Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born December 31, 1940 to the late Leota Lewis and Wayne McDowell.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Rick) Carter of Oak Hill, Ohio; son, Robert “Bob” McCorkle of Oak Hill, Ohio; daughter, Melissa (Dave) Rucker of Wheelersburg, Ohio; and daughter, Kelly McCorkle of Circleville, Ohio. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Brandon Carter of Austin, Texas, Justin Carter of Fort Worth, Texas, Cole Fletcher of Columbus, Ohio, Aspen McCorkle of Oak Hill, Ohio, and Lexie, Braylon, and Easton Rucker of Wheelersburg, Ohio; as well as three sisters and her beloved dog, Sammy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Sonny” McCorkle and two infant children.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
