Evlyn Marie (Colby) White

Evlyn Marie (Colby) White passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Florida Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She was born February 21, 1927 in Jackson, Ohio to the late Ellsworth Franklin Colby and Martha Frances (Evans) Colby. She had recently celebrated her 87th birthday on the 21st of February.

Evlyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. She was a homemaker for many years as well as being a teacher’s aide at the former South Street School for 12 years in her later years. She was also a charter member of the Jackson Craft Club for 52 years.

Evlyn and her husband of 68 years, Ernest Gerald White, wintered in Tampa, Florida for the past 15 years which she dearly loved. She was also an animal lover and a great woodworking craftsman. Her handmade wooden Christmas tree ornaments were well-known and cherished pieces of work. Evlyn enjoyed woodcarving as well, having been instructed by nationally known woodcarvers which resulted in her winning several awards for her work.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Dan White of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Faith (Terry) McKinniss of Gallipolis, Ohio; seven grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Marika Zahrndt of Dublin, Ohio, Jessica Pohlkamp of Santa Monica, California, Nicholet McKinniss of New Albany, Ohio, Rex (Kim) McKinniss of Tolesboro, Kentucky, Morgan McKinniss, Quenton McKinniss, and Griffon McKinniss, all of Gallipolis, Ohio; and one great-granddaughter, Clara Lynne Zahrndt of Dublin, Ohio.

Additionally she is survived by six siblings, Kathleen Yerian of Jackson, Ohio, Lamar Colby of Grove City, Ohio, Pearl (Bill) Bowman of Jacksonville, Florida, Ellsworth F. Jr. (Peg) Colby of Chillicothe, Ohio, Martha (Dwight) Walburn of Jackson, Ohio, and Linda (Jerry) Tussing of Bellefontaine, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was a sister, Darlene DeLong; brothers-in-law, Ivan Yerian and Phil DeLong; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Colby.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson, Ohio. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A service will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Keaton officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson, Ohio.
