Edward A. “Art” Emmert

Edward A. “Art” Emmert, age 78, of Hamden, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Edgewood Manor of Wellston. He was born November 4, 1933 in Wellston, Ohio, the son of the late Corbett A. Emmert and Mae Kelly Emmert.

Art was a 1951 graduate of Wellston High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was a licensed insurance agent for the State Farm Insurance Company for 37 years. Art was a member of the State Farm Legion of Honor, the Regional Vice Presidents Club and received numerous other awards and achievements while being a businessman in the city of Wellston. He was a 32nd Degree Mason; a member of the Black Diamond Lodge #538 F&AM, of which he was the youngest Past Master of the lodge; the Aladdin Shrine and the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. Art was a former member and past President of the Wellston Lions Club and a former member of the Wellston Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Leitch Emmert; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Diane Emmert, Porter and Lynn Emmert and Eric and Teresa Emmert, all of Hamden; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Rick McManaway of Wellston; grandchildren, Angie (Jason) Caudill, Jimmy Emmert, Heidi (Mike) McIntire, Niki (Brent) Phillips, Nathan Emmert, Aaron (Kristin) Emmert, Rachel (Joel) Burns and Erica McManaway; great-grandchildren, Lakin and Sean Caudill, Kourtney and Kamryn Emmert, Bomichael, Gretchen and Zayda McIntire, Macie, Jacob and Kinly Phillips, and Maelyn and Alayna Emmert; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ellen Emmert of Lander of Wyoming; sister, Susie Emmert of Wellston; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stella and Walter Middleton of Columbus; nephews and nieces, Scott Middleton, Clark Middleton, Bill Finn, Kelly Lewis, Michelle Williams, Sara Rader, Janet Emmert, Catherine Glass and Emily Glass, and great-niece, Emilya Newsom.

Besides his parents, Art was preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Emmert Finn and step-mother, Agnes Emmert.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Griffith officiating.
