Jason Dwaine Crabtree, age 42, of Wellston, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 26 at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, Ohio. He was born Jan. 4, 1979, in Gallipolis, Ohio to Joey D. Crabtree and Mary A. Davis Crabtree. Jason was a 1998 graduate of Wellston High School. He was employed with Merillat Industries in Jackson until their closing, then he worked as a contractor. Jason enjoyed fishing and all types of hunting, but his passion was coon hunting. He appeared on covers of magazines and has won several trophies, which he won with his world champion coon dog “Red”.
Jason is survived by his parents, Joey and Mary Crabtree; wife: Jessica Ervin Crabtree; children: Austin, Braydyn and Jossylynn Crabtree; sisters: Jodi Crabtree (Brent Kisor) and Beth Fortner; maternal grandmother: Barbara Bentley; mother-in-law: Beth Burroughs; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Lester and Norma Crabtree; maternal grandfather: Malcolm Davis; father-in-law: Stanley Ervin; and brother-in-law: Michael “Okie” Fortner.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 7 p.m. with Pastor Travis Potts officiating. In keeping with Jason’s wishes, cremation will follow the service.
