Elizabeth M. “Libby” Jenkins, age 85, of Wellston, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at Edgewood Manor in Wellston. She was born December 9, 1932 in Coalton, Ohio to the late John William Long and Nancy Adams Long.
Libby was the salutatorian of the Coalton High School class of 1950. She went on to further her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Education Degree from Rio Grande College in 1974. Libby retired as an educator for the Wellston City School, where she served as their middle school reading and English teacher for 31 years. She enjoyed playing bingo, writing poetry and tutoring students, helping several of them graduate high school. Libby was a member of the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association; former president and secretary for the American Legion Post 371 Ladies Auxiliary in Wellston; and she attended the Zion #3 Church.
Libby is survived by her children, Susan Allman (Stan), Jackie Jenkins (Lora), Mark Jenkins, John Jenkins and Jerry Jenkins, all of Wellston; grandchildren, Michael Jones, Dustin Jones, Tish Montgomery (Brent), Seth Jenkins, (Tiffany), Bree-anna Jenkins, Megan Montgomery (Kevin), Drew Jenkins, Elizabeth Jenkins and John Jenkins; sister, Helen Lambert of Republic, Missouri, along with 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Jackie L. Jenkins, in 1981; grandson, Blake Jenkins; brother, Charles Long; and sisters, Eleanor Butts, Marilyn Barnett, and Maxine Sears.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 A.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
