Donald Evan Phillips, age 78, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born October 9, 1939 in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Paul and Violet (Sorrell) Phillips.
Following 25 years of employment, Don retired from National Cable Repair in Logan, West Virginia, where he was a foreman. Don enjoyed farming with his brothers, coon hunting with his friends, tinkering in his garage, and visiting with the deer hunters who would hunt on the family property; but his greatest passion was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by daughter, Tammy M. Ellis of Pecks Mill, West Virginia; son and special daughter-in-law and caregiver, Jody Evan and Tammy J. Phillips of Vinton; grandchildren, Johnny Deditch (Jennifer), Donnie Ellis (Alyssa), John Ellis, Jr., Joseph Brewer (Jo Ellen), Amber Phillips (Derrick Shadwich), and Breonna Bartoe (Levi); great-grandchildren, Noah, Peyton, Maddie, Ava, Silas, Cayden, Skylyn, Mia, and Lillian; sisters, Wilma Faught (Bud) of Canal Winchester, Laverne Spires (Arlen) of Gallipolis, and Carolyn Hill (Richard) of Wellston; brothers, Gene Phillips (Carol) of Wilkesville, Loren Phillips of Wellston, and Tommy Phillips of Columbus; sister-in-law, Rana Phillips of Wellston; mother of his children, Brenda Joyce Tomblin, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by son-in-law, John Ellis, Sr.; brother, Johnny Phillips; sister, Marilyn Smith; and sister-in-law, Patty Phillips.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
