Sherman Baisden, age 84, of Jackson, Ohio was called home on Sunday, April 15, 2018. He was born Nov. 8, 1933 in Logan, West Virginia to Lewis and Grace Baisden.
As a young boy he moved with his family to Cooper Hollow where he grew up and graduated from Cadmus High School. After graduation he then joined the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. When he returned from Korea he became a barber where he was self-employed for many years. He also worked for Southern Ohio Coal Company and retired from Raccoon #3 Coal Mine.
In his retirement, he reopened “Baisden’s Barber Shop” where he continued to work as a barber for another 20 years. Besides barbering, Sherman enjoyed coaching, hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family. He knew no stranger and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan M. Baisden; daughter, Tamara (Larry) Frazier; son, Sherman A. (Marsha) Baisden; sister, Donna Grate; grandchildren: Tyler (Brittany) Baisden, Shane Frazier, Connor Frazier, and Sidney Baisden; and great-grandchildren: Callie and Carlie Baisden.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Russ Strange officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
