Howard Jackson “Jack” Arrowood of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Four Winds Community. He was born on April 9, 1931 in Hitchens, Kentucky, the first beloved child of the late Ben and Mearl (Duvall) Arrowood.
Jack was a Korean War veteran and drove for Trailways Bus Line, Purolator Currier and later Gallia County School System, from which he retired in 2006. He loved to drive, buy and restore vehicles, specifically Fords and Volkswagens, and was devoted to his family. His never-ending sense of humor delighted all who knew him and he will be forever missed.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by wife, Freda Arrowood, daughter, Janie Arrowood, and son-in-law, Jim Legg; siblings, Joe (Mary Lou), Jimmy, Flem Arrowood, and Lois Barker; also nephews, Jimbo Arrowood, Jeff Barker, Scott Arrowood; and nieces, Angela Dawn and baby Lucy.
He is survived by children: Sherrie Legg, Mary Crooks, Diana (Tom) Wright, and Howie Arrowood; grandchildren, Jason and Benji Pope, Angela Devoe, Cynthia (Ancil) Cross, Janie (Chris) Pianki and Michael Gilbert; great-grandchildren: Jerrica (Sam) Shelton, Bethany Devoe, Blake, Madelyn and Colt Cross and Caleb Pianki; siblings, Helen (Wendall) Jones, Benny (Jane) Arrowood, Betty (Gary) Carter, Ervin (Shirley) Arrowood, Samantha (Bill) Hatcher, John (Diana) Arrowood, Glen (Jewell) Arrowood, David (Linda) Arrowood; and sisters and brother-in-law, Joan Arrowood, Sheila Arrowood and Albin Barker. Also surviving are cousins and many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the funeral home with Elder Glenn Arrowood and Elder Jim Penix officiating. Burial will follow in the Arrowood Family Cemetery with military graveside honors being performed by the DAV Jackson Chapter 45.
