Eugene “Tex” Lamar Colby, age 90, of Grove City, Ohio and formerly of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Mt. Carmel West in Columbus, Ohio. He was born January 17, 1925 in Jackson, Ohio to the late Ellsworth F. and Martha Frances (Evans) Colby.
Tex was a graduate of Jackson High School. He was also a veteran of the United States Army in which he served during World War II and was recognized for his achievements with a Bronze Star. Tex retired from Decker Construction as a Master Mechanic. He was a long-time member of Buckeye Vintage Haulers, a 50-plus year member of I.U.O.E. Local 18, District 3, and he was a recipient of 50 years in trucking from the American Truck Historical Society. He was also previously a member of the Apple City Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by sisters: Kathleen Yerian and Martha (Dwight) Walburn both of Jackson, Ohio; Pearl (Bill) Bowman of Jacksonville, Florida, and Linda (Jerry) Tussing of Bellefontaine, Ohio; brother, Ellsworth (Peg) Colby Jr. of Chillicothe, Ohio; brother-in-law, Gerald White of Jackson, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Jenkins) Colby in 2005; sisters: Darlene DeLong and Evlyn White; and brothers-in-law, Ivan Yerian and Phillip DeLong.
