Jeffrey Floyd Coyan, age 51 of Jackson, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 4, 2015 while in the loving care of his children.
Coyan was born January 19, 1964 at the Oak Hill Hospital to Floyd (Boone) Coyan, Jr., and Joy Ellen Masters Coyan.
Jeffrey was survived by his sons, David Floyd (Lindsey) Coyan, Tyrus Wilson (Morgan Humphrey) Coyan and his daughter Cassandra Lynn (Riley Nickell) Coyan, as well as his grandchildren McKensey and Chloe Coyan, Dominic Floyd Coyan and Elaina Joy Nickell. He is also survived by two sisters.
Coyan returned home after a long illness to the care of his children and Heartland Hospice Care.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd (Boone) Coyan, Jr., and Joy Ellen Masters Coyan.
Coyan was an employee of the City of Jackson for many years, working in the water and trash departments as a meter reader and then a garbage man, before ultimately returning to the water department and retiring as the city’s Water Plant Superintendent.
More important to Coyan, however, were the numerous lives he touched as a very active youth sports coach. He spent twenty years serving the city’s recreational leagues as both a baseball and basketball coach. He loved the children he coached as much as he did his own, and relished the opportunity to share his love of sports with those children.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Jackson Christian Church on Saturday, July 11 at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are by the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home.
