Lewis Ray “Smokey” Hommes, age 90, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Holzer of Jackson. He was born December 3, 1924, in Gallia, Ohio to the late Lewis & Elizabeth (Humphreys) Hommes.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and remained active in the American Legion Post 81 as Sergeant of Arms. He retired from Dick Brown’s Fruit Farm. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and especially his “lady friend.” He also enjoyed playing bingo and watching wrestling.
He is survived by his children, Larry (Alice) Johnson, Barb (Johnny) Adkins, Pat Seeders, Connie Boothe, Dean (Bonita) Hommes, and Brenda (John) Coleman; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; siblings, Margaret (Dick) Jones, Betty Petry, Freida Holberg, and George Dean Hommes; and very special “lady friend,” Charlotte Hubbard.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Jean (Ward) Hommes; daughter, Sandy (Hommes) Hargett; and siblings, Jack, Marion, Wayne, and Danny Hommes.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 11 a.m. — 2 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. A service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery with a military graveside service conducted by the Jackson DAV Post #45.
