Joyce Marie Wynn McClaskey was born at San Diego, California, June 24, 1947, and departed to be with her Heavenly family August 17, 2014, at Columbus, Ohio. Prior to residing in Wellston, she made her home in Bryan, Texas.
Born to the late Marvin L. and Noma I. Shipton Wynn, Joyce was reared in Snyder, Oklahoma and Wichita Falls, Texas; having graduated from S. H. Rider High School in Wichita Falls. She met her husband, Tom while working at the local drive-in theatre and they married shortly afterwards. In their 44 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children – two daughters and a son. She prided herself in being a professional secretary for a number of years before retiring around 1999 in order to better care for her family. Her hobbies included sewing and crocheting/knitting, assisting with various ministries, and her family. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson at the time of her passing.
Joyce’s presence was a blessing to all who were fortunate to know her. We will remember her sense of humor (who could forget the “They’ll just have to learn” saying from driving in Houston traffic?), her dedication and fierce love of her family, and her steadfast love and trust in Jesus since her childhood. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Kevin L. McClaskey; and a niece, Rhonda L. Wynn.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Tom D. McClaskey of Wellston; two daughters, Hellon D. Gonzales and Rebecca I. McClaskey both of Wellston; and a brother, Leon Wynn of Irving, Texas. Other survivors include her granddaughters, Gracie N. and Faith R. Gonzales of Wellston; a grandson, Kevin T. Gonzales also of Wellston; and her three nieces, Melissa and husband Tim Lockard of Irving, Texas, Cheryl Cline and family of Ennis, Texas, and Amanda Henry and husband, Terry of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Friends and family will gather Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral Home of Wellston. A funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson. Pastor Dave Roach will officiate and burial will follow in the Hamden Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral Home.
