Jerry Lee Rice, Sr., age 76, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born November 10, 1937 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Roy L. Rice and Freda Mae McNeal Rice.
Jerry was a 1956 graduate of Wellston High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a former barber for several years in Wellston and was also a former employee of Meigs #2 Coal Mine. Jerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wellston, the Black Diamond Lodge #538 F&AM, and the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Devlin Rice; children, Jerry L. Rice, Jr. (Michelle) of Drayden, Maryland, Cheri Rice of Jackson, Robert P. Rice (Renee) of Washington, D.C., and Suzanne M. Rice Carpenter (Robert) of Suffolk, Va.; grandchildren, Joshua Rice (Meghan), Tiffany Rice Shaffer (Lindsay), Kristin McManus Kisor (Richie), Sean McManus (Abbe), Nicholas Rice, Kayla Rice, Tyler Carpenter, Trey Carpenter and Joseph Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Tressa, Brooklyn, Harrison, Owen and Adaline; and his sister, Shirley Hamer of Wellston.
Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Russell David Rice and his brother, Paul Rice.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with John Pelletier, CLP, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery with military honors by representatives of the United States Navy and the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston.
