James (Jim) H. Davis, age 70, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014. He died peacefully at his home in the presence of loving family members after a brief illness.
Jim was born April 4, 1944 at Sheltering Arms Hospital in Athens, Ohio to the late James Davis and Hazel (Griffith) Druggan. He was raised in Jackson, Ohio where he graduated with the Class of 1962 from Jackson High School.
After high school Jim moved to Chicago, Illinois where he graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in the field of Electronics. Soon after graduation, he was hired by a radio station in Pomeroy, Ohio as an announcer and Disc Jockey, but this was not a new field to Jim. He had developed a strong work ethic early in life and worked many jobs through out his lifetime, but it was his love of music and electronics that helped him get his first job as a teen D.J. on Saturday mornings where he played the latest “Rock and Roll” hits to the listening area. This helped develop his skills, and he became known to many through out the area as “Dr. Jim”. He served as a local D.J. for 22 years with both WLMJ and WKOV radio stations and many events like weddings, car shows, class reunions, and dances over the years.
Jim was a proud member of AMVETS, VFW, Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees and Elks where he served as a past Exalted Ruler in 1991. Jim retired at age 62 as a sales associate from Western Auto but returned to work part-time there.
Jim is survived by his loving mother Hazel Druggan; his loving wife of 20 years, Sandra (Moore) Davis; two sons, Todd Davis of Jackson, and Josh (Miranda) Davis of Port St. Lucie, Florida; sister, Norma (Davis) Arbaugh (John Hess) of Grove City, and brother, Kenneth Druggan of Palm City, Florida; sister-in-law, Bonnie Davis of Canton, Ohio; nephew, Ryan (Rachel) Davis of Dover, Ohio; step-sons, Troy King, and Matt King, Pennie (Timmy) Davis and Sherrie King, all of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Bethany, Sara, Emma, Eli, McKenna, Addrienna, Casandra, Emily, Kami, Roger, Selina, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Davis, brother, Kenny Davis, daughter, Jill Stafford, and niece, Melissa Davis, and the mother of his children, Leah Rae Siders.
Jim had many loving “favorite” aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends who remain in the community and throughout the states.
