Matthew Don Mullins, Sr.

Matthew Don Mullins, Sr., age 26, of London, Ohio, and a former Wellston resident, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 1, 1987 in Bradenton, Florida to Michael Scott Mullins, Sr. and Bonnie Jean Sass Mullins.

Matthew was a 2005 graduate of Vinton County High School. Following graduation, he moved to Colorado and joined the Army in 2006 and was stationed at Ft. Bliss Texas. It was there that he met his future wife, Jennifer, who was also in the military. They married on March 22, 2008 in Las Vegas.

Matthew was a veteran of the United States Army, having served overseas during the Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a youth, he attended the Mt. Carmel Church in Wellston and he was baptized in August of 2013. Matthew was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

He is survived by his parents, Scott and Bonnie Mullins of Wilkesville; wife, Jennifer Brown Mullins; two children, Kaycee Rai Mullins, age 5 and Matthew Don Mullins II, age 2; brother, Michael S. Mullins II (Kristin) of London; nieces and nephew, Mykaleigh and Alyssia Mullins and Hunter Mullins; grandfather, Floyd W. Sass, Sr. (Daisy) of Wellston; great-grandmother, Madeline Wykle Wheeler of South Webster; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Kim Brown of California; grandmother-in-law, Jewell Thompson of California; aunt, Terri Wright (Allen) of Wellston; uncles, Mason J. Mullins of Florida (Pam of Kentucky), Marc Mullins (Sherry) of Florida; Floyd “Jim” Sass (Billie Jo) of Wellston; brothers-in-law, Kyle Brown and Chris Brown, both of California, as well as several great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Linda J. Simon Wilson, Mason J. Mullins and Florence J. Mullins and his aunt, April Lee Sass Wicker.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and representatives from the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be given to the McWilliams Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
