Wilma Leona McCain Thomas, age 90, of Oak Hill passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013. She was born on Oct. 12, 1922 in Oak Hill to the late Fred McCain and Nora Edith Humphreys McCain. Wilma spent her entire life in Oak Hill, Ohio. Wilma worked for several families in her early years and, later, was employed at Pastor’s Home Department Store. Upon retirement, she became a caregiver for young and old who often spoke of her as, “Gram Thom.” She was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Oak Hill.
She is survived by a daughter, June (Wayne) Williams and son, Gary J. (Portia) Thomas; grandchlidren, Marlo and Kent Yarnall, Trevor and Lucy Thomas, Bronwyn and Rick Patterson, Trent and LaChelle Thomas, Brittany and Brandon Swartzwelder, Lara and Cody McNeal; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Celia Nance, Estle (Jeanene) McCain, Forrest (Perk) McCain, Jessie (Marvin) Boggs, Virgie (Bon) Smittle, Fred (Donna) McCain and Mike (Kay) McCain; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howell J. Thomas; son, Lary J. Thomas; brothers, Melvin, Albert, Lenzy and Lawrrence McCain; sisters, Geneva Kisor and beulah Morgan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Rev. Pat King officiating. Burial will follow at C.M. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 320 W. Main St., Oak Hill, Ohio 45656.
