By | December 17, 2012

Carol I. Murdoch Dixon, age 92, of Hamden, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the OSU East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born April 1, 1920 in Pomeroy, Ohio, to the late Leverett M. and Mabel Martin Murdoch.

Carol was baptized at the Hamden United Methodist Church when she was five years old and continued being active in the church until recent years. She served as the organist/pianist at the Hamden United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Carol graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 1937 from Hamden High School. She was also a graduate of the Columbus School of Cosmetology, as well as having attended the Rio Grand College and the Ohio University.

Carol was very active in the community. She served as clerk for the Hamden Schools and the Clinton Township Trustees and was a teacher’s aid in Head Start at the Allensville Schools. Carol was employed by the Jackson County Board of Developmentally Disabled Adults (J-Vac) for 30 years. She enjoyed playing basketball in high school, dancing as a young woman and playing the piano. She also had an interest in genealogy.

Carol was a very good cook and a fun-loving mom. Aging and health issues restricted her activities in recent years. She loved her family and prayed for each one daily. Most of all, she loved Jesus and they talked right up to the moment she went home.

Carol is survived by her two sons, Evan W. Dixon and Brent L. Dixon. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a nephew (David Murdoch) and a niece (Louella Dixon Noble). She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Loyd Willis Dixon in 1996 and her brother, Rexford Murdoch.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hamden United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Londonderry Cemetery.
