James (Jim) D. Mokren, age 75, of Jackson, passed away with his children by his side. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Sophie Mokren on March 3, 1937.
Jim graduated from John Marshal High School in Cleveland, and served two years in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps. He received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Capital University, a Master of Science in chemistry from Michigan State, and a Doctorate of Science in chemistry from The Ohio State University. He retired from the City of Jackson, after a long career making the drinking water of Jackson safe and delicious.
Jim was a loving person who always had plenty to say on any topic. He was a student of life, with a curious nature and a passion for reading. He was generous with his time and energy, and volunteered with many service organizations throughout his life. He was a faithful member of his church, and loved singing with the choir.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophie Mokren, and his brother, Donald (Jane) Mokren. He is survived by his children, Frederic (Esther) Mokren and Jennifer (Adolfo Garcia) Mokren; brother, Robert (Julaine) Mokren; grandchildren, Simon, Oliver and Sophia; cousin, Patricia (Fred) Harf; nieces and nephews; Linda (Gary) Wright, Julie (John) Murray, Rob (Susan) Mokren, Chris Mokren and Trisch Smith.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church, 150 Portsmouth Street, Jackson, OH 45640 at 11 a.m., Pastor Dave Roach, Celebrant. A full military burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, 12 Fairmount Street, Jackson, OH 45640.
