Clara “Ruth” Terry

Clara “Ruth” Terry, age 93, of Jackson passed away peacefully Thursday, January 20, 2022. She was born September 15, 1928, in Jackson County, Ohio to the late Albert and Inez Busler Riegel.

She is survived by her son: Alan (Jeanine) Terry; and her grandson: Alex Terry. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Terry; and brother, Lawerance A. Riegel.

Ruth grew up on the family farm on Riegel Ridge in Jackson County and was a 1946 graduate of Jackson High School. She was married to Charles F. Terry of the Glade area in Jackson, Ohio in 1951. They were married for 60 years before he preceded her in death in 2011.

Ruth was a caring and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was first employed by the phone company as a switchboard operator in the 1940’s and afterward as a clerk at the G.C. Murphy store on Broadway Street in Jackson during the 1950s. She later became a stay-at-home mother to Alan in 1962. She entered the family business in 1987 when Alan and his wife purchased the former “Chapman’s Jewelers” on Broadway Street in Jackson. She worked there over 30 years as a sales clerk, along with many other duties which included caring for her grandson Alex, who was born in 1999. Affectionately known by many as “Gramzy”, she will be greatly missed.

Ruth passed away peacefully at Holzer Hospital in Jackson after suffering a stroke at her home. She was surrounded by her son Alan, grandson Alex and daughter-in-law Jeanine.

Private funeral services were held Sunday, January 23, 2022, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
