Melvin Lee Davis

Dr. Melvin Lee Davis passed away April 9, 2021, at his home in Brevard, NC. He was born in Wellston, OH March 1943, to Everett and Pluma Davis. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Sue Misenheimer Davis, daughter, Amy Davis Eilers of Sylva, son J. Michael Davis of Los Angles, CA, grandchildren, Julian Talley and Jacob Eilers of Sylva, sister, Lora Joan Jenkins (husband Jack); brothers, Charles Everett, and Paul Thomas of Wellston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, sister, Mona Lee Lenegar, brother, James Dale Davis, and son-in-law, Jason Eilers.

Dr. Davis graduated from Ohio State University of Dentistry in 1968 and immediately reported for duty in the United States Navy Dental Corp. His first tour of duty was Da Nang during the Vietnam War. He later served a second tour to Vietnam on the aircraft carrier USS America. After a 20-year Navy career, Dr. Davis retired to Brevard, opened a dental practice and worked another 28 years. 

He was a member of the American Dental Association and worked with NC dentists on several free dental clinics over the state. He also served yearly at the WNC Fair on the Baptist Men’s Dental Bus providing free care for any fair worker.

Dr. Davis was a member of First Baptist Church, Brevard, for 23 years where he served his Lord in many capacities.

Funeral services for Dr. Davis will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Maynard officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be private at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
