Wilbur Vanderbelt Rouse, Jr.

Wilbur Vanderbelt Rouse, Jr., age 75 of Jackson, passed away peacefully at his residence with his family around him on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.  He was born on May 3, 1945 in Jackson to Wilbur Rouse, Sr. and Dorothy (Simpson) Rouse.

Wilbur worked for Kroger as a meat cutter for 25 years and was a Scioto Township Trustee.  He loved draft horses and wagon rides with his friends. He was the president of the Forest and Field Draft Horse Club for 35 years until his health declined.  He loved hunting, woodworking and working with leather, and was always making things for his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and son Joseph.

Wilbur is survived by his wife Elsie (Swaney) Rouse; son Andrew (Dana) Rouse; daughters: Christi (Todd) Williams and Melissa Rouse; granddaughters: Kara (Lance) Mitchell, Cassie (Nick Mitchell) Patton, Haley Patton, Lyndsey Patton, and Madison (Danny Oaks) Rouse; and great-grandsons: Nicholas, Carson, Nolan Mitchell, Brody, Leland, Lincoln Mitchell and Noah Kirkendall.

He is also survived by his aunt and uncle who he was raised with, Amos (Dottie) Simpson of Saint Marys, GA and Linda (Jerry) Dulaney of Parkersburg, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 13 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Mike Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Buckeye Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 12, from 4 to 8 p.m.
