Pamela Louise (Hammond) Smith

Pamela Louise (Hammond) Smith, age 71, of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson. She was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on Dec. 29, 1946 to the late Millard S. and Evelyn M. (Gentil) Hammond. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca “Becky” Sue Hammond (James Michael “Mike”) Adrian.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney Smith; children: Randey (Kim) Smith; Shannan (“Johnny” – deceased) Orender; and Andrea Smith Davis; grandchildren: Tara Fenwick, Nicklaus “Nick” Smith, Jaimi Suzann Orender, Devin Ashton Orender, Adrianna Brooke (Cain) Wolford and Audrey Ellen Haning; great-grandchildren: Leviticus “Levi” Canterbury, Piper Abrielle Richison and Peter Anakin Wolford.

Also surviving are her half-brother, Allan Hammond; brothers-in-law: Richard (Brenda) Smith, Sidney (Linda) Smith and Rick (Jan) Smith; sisters-in-law: Bodine (Gary) Rader, Bernetta (Raymond “Shorty” – deceased) Fout, Joyce (Fred) Richards, Bernadine (Larry) Conkle and Beverly (Danny – deceased) Griffith; and nephew and niece, Mike “Mickey” (Bobbi) Adrian and Ashley Adrian (Jeremy Greene).

Pam was a retired teacher with the Jackson City Schools, having taught at Scioto, Kinnison and Westview. She was the Valedictorian of the last class at Coalton High School in 1964. She was president of the Coalton Alumni Association, a member of the Jackson Retired Teachers Association, a delegate for Southern Ohio Education Association, and a member of the Jackson County Democratic Party. She also loved to play the piano.

Funeral services will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Janie Karl officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 12 from 3 to 8 p.m.
