Mary “Dot” Sorrell Erwin

Mary “Dot” Sorrell Erwin, age 87, of Wellston, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 27, 2018 at Arbors of Gallipolis. She was born Aug. 22, 1931 in Leon, West Virginia, daughter of the late John and Flora Fitzwater Camp.

Mary was a 1949 graduate of Wilkesville High School. She was a loving homemaker, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading Christian-based love stories. Mary was a member of World Outreach Ministries.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Glass (Jack) of Jackson, Dale Glass (Robert) of Central City, Ky., Wilbur Sorrell (Debi) of Langsville, Elsie Long (Jim McKinney) of Gallipolis, Kenneth Sorrell of Vinton, Laurie Ponn of Vinton, John Sorrell (Heather) of Wellston and Mary Collins (Tony) of Zanesville; former son-in-law, Harold Long of Gallipolis; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur S. Sorrell; second husband, Donald Edward Erwin; son, William Sorrell; sisters, Toinette Redman, Goldie Nelson and Lillie Cardwell; brothers, Harless Camp, Bill Camp, Golden “Joe” Camp, Fred Camp, and Robert Camp; and two grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Celebration of Life service will follow the calling hours at 7 p.m. with Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation will follow the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Salem Cemetery.
