Johnnie “John” Adkins. Jr., 90, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 7, 2018, at Four Winds Community. He was born in Wayne County, West Virginia, Jan. 27, 1928, to the late Johnnie Adkins, Sr. and Nellie Napier Adkins. He was a 1947 graduate of Wayne County High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1966 from Marshall University. He also studied economics at Ohio University. He retired following 25 years as a science and math teacher at Wellston High School and Junior High School. He was a sales representative for 6 years for the Ohio Lottery Commission. He was a member of Black Diamond Lodge #538, Shilo, Aladdin Temple, Scottish Rite 32 degree Valley of Columbus, and Jackson County Commandry. He was a member of the Echo Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Adkins and a son, William Keith Adkins.

He is survived by his wife, Diane McClung Adkins; a son, John David (Sidney) Adkins of Huntington, WV; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston, Ohio, on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Masonic services by Black Diamond Lodge #538 will begin at 7 p.m.

Burial will take place on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Spring Valley Memory Gardens in Huntington, West Virginia.
