James E. “Jim” Unger, Jr.

James E. “Jim” Unger, Jr., age 55, of Wellston, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 1, 2018 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born Nov. 28, 1962 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to James E. Unger, Sr. and Claire L. Griffin Unger.

Jim was a former employee of General Mills in Wellston for 20 years. He was a fun-loving person who always enjoyed playing Santa Claus every year at the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Christmas dinner. He loved photography, going fishing, and watching his grandchildren play sports.

Jim is survived by his mother, Claire Unger of Philadelphia, Pa.; his wife of 38 years, Tina VanKirk Unger; children, Christine Farney (Eric) of Oak Hill, Michele Bolton (Harold) of Wellston, Andrea Unger (Lenny Rura) of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and James E. Unger III (Chelsey Harwood) of Ontario, Oh.; brother, Jay Unger of Philadelphia, Pa.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chuck and Dottie VanKirk of Wellston; along with 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, his body was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 at 5 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with Jackie Parsons officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
