Hazel M. Skeen

Hazel M. Skeen, age 100, of Wellston, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at Maples Hills Nursing Facility in McArthur, Ohio. She was born Oct. 23, 1917 in Ramage, West Virginia, daughter of the late Kiley Doss and Lottie Michaels Doss.

Hazel and her husband, Rudie, owned and operated Skeen’s Market in Wellston for several years. Following her retirement, Hazel was not only a loving homemaker, but also a dedicated volunteer at My Brother’s Place in Wellston. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s group.

Hazel is survived by three children, Edward Skeen (Linda) of Germantown, Tennessee, Larry Skeen (Joanna) of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Patricia Goin of Centerville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Marianne Medlin, Laura Kuns, Eric Skeen and Andrea Harker; six great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Melinda Medlin, Matthew and Joshua Kuns and Katherine and Charlie Skeen; two brothers, Estel Doss of Commerce City, Colorado and Kiley Doss, Jr. of Prenter, West Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Rudie Skeen in 1993; infant son, Jimmy Lee Skeen; and several brothers and sisters.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions in Hazel’s name be given to Maple Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation, 31054 St. Rt. 93, McArthur, Ohio 45651 or Hope United Methodist Church, 219 East First St., Wellston, Ohio 45692.
