Bill Starkey

Bill Starkey, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Wellston on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017. He was born in Wellston on May 11, 1931, to the late Homer and Marie Waugh Starkey. He was a 1949 graduate of Wellston High School and married Shirley Kinsel Starkey, his wife for 62 years.

They had two children, Billy (Lynn) Starkey of Jackson, Ohio, and the late Brenda Kay Starkey Henry, who passed away on August 20, 2016.

Besides his wife, son, and daughter-in-law, Bill is also survived by a son-in-law, Rick L. Henry, of Wellston; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and daughter, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Eugene, Warren, Max, and Homer Dean Starkey; and two sisters: Helen Graham and Pauline Gast.

Bill was a well-known businessman in Wellston, having owned Starkey’s TV Sales and Service for 30 years. He retired from the Southern Ohio Coal Company where he was an electrician for 20 years. He was a member of the UMWA, the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge for 42 years, and the Scottish Rite and Aladdin Shrine for 40 years. He most of all enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
