Herold L. Brown Jr., age 83, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson, on Monday, April 10, 2017. He was born in Jackson, Ohio on June 3, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herold L. Brown Sr. and Charlotte (Fehrman) Brown; and sisters: Ann Waddington, Madelyn Clark, Joy Dean and Rosalyn Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Janis (Graves) Brown; son, Eric (Denise) Brown; daughter, Angela (John) Murphy; sister, Cherrylyn Marks; two grandchildren: Nathan Brown (Kassandra) and Josh Brown (Tashina); and one great-grandchild, Alivia Elynn Brown.

Herold graduated from Jackson High School, Class of 1951 and from Ohio University with a B.S. in Education in 1955. He was an Industrial Arts teacher, was later employed at Kroger and retired from there at age 80. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Leonard F. Mason from 1956-1957; married Janis Graves on June 25, 1957; was a Boy Scout leader at Chief Logan Scout Camp; member of the Jackson Christian Church and later attended Allensville Christian Church. He enjoyed woodworking and mowing the lawn. He often joked with others who would say they “had to go to work”; he would correct with, “you get to go to work”.

Friends will be received at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home on Friday, April 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Jackson Christian Church on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Riley Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
