Ray A. “Rosie” Spearry, Sr.

Ray A. “Rosie” Spearry, Sr., age 91, of Wellston, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at his home. He was born June 29, 1925 in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late Burt Leroy Spearry and Mabel Claire Buffington Spearry.

Rosie was a former coal miner for Walton Coal Company and was also a former employee of R.J. Reynolds and Pillsbury. He was a member of the Community Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union in Wellston and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Rosie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice E. Marquis Spearry; children, Mike Barnhill (Tonda) of Washington, CH, Marilyn Kay Hall (Orman) of Lancaster, Gloria Jean Wittkamp of Wellston, Janice Elaine Fout of Wellston, Ray Alva Spearry, Jr. of Wellston and Robert Eric Spearry (Tina) of Jackson; as well as 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Rosie, the last of his siblings, was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Elwin Spearry, Leroy Spearry, Carlene Spearry, Ann Lambert, Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Davis, Erma Leach and Faye Dempsey; and two great-grandchildren, Mason Spearry and Jonah Barnhill.

Calling hours will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. with Chaplain J.D. Stevens officiating.
