Fred Walton

Fred Walton, 73, of Sullivan, IL, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Wellston, OH. Arrangements were made by McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan.

He was born on July 12, 1943 in Wellston, OH to Isaac & Ethel (Armstrong) Walton. He retired in 2005 after 44 years in the coal-mining industry. He was proud to have supervised the largest stripping dragline as well as shovel ever made. He liked to say that his job was telling jokes and handing out Cokes.

His quick wit and kind heart were his hallmark. He was known to have the ability to share a story without being prompted which usually ended in a lesson or a laugh.

He is survived by two brothers, Gary (Rene) and Max (Mary Ellen) as well as his two sons, Brook and Chad (Kathy). He was also survived by the highlights of his life, his grandchildren; Henry, Zoe, Caroline and Eli.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Forest (Joyce).
