Fred Hill

Fred Hill, age 70, of Jackson, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at OSU Hospital East, Columbus, Ohio. He went to be with family and friends in heaven after a wonderful visit with his family on New Year’s Day.

He was retired from GTE and was the owner of Fred Hill Realty and the Village Cafe. He loved fishing and remodeling houses. He and his wife Alice remodeled over 50 properties in Jackson. He loved watching the Buckeyes, Fox News and hummingbirds with his granddogs.

Fred is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice (Schaible) Hill; two daughters, Angela Markham of Orient, Ohio and Christina Smith of Jackson; and his favorite son-in-law, Jeffrey Smith of Jackson. Also surviving are four grandchildren, which he adored: Erica Hill Smith of Columbus, Amy Hill Smith of Jackson, Brooke Cameron Markham and Spencer Fredrick Markham of Orient, Ohio; special future grandson-in-law, Connor Reed Canini of Columbus; sisters, Jean Reiser of Gallipolis and Joyce (John) Travis of Grove City; and brothers, Alan (Linda) Hill of Jackson and Vince (Joyce) Hill of Bidwell. He also will be missed by his dear friends, Deacon Howard, Irv Cherrington and Bill Mossman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ida Belle Hill; sister, Dee Dee Smallwood and brothers, James and John Hill.

A memorial will be planned in the future for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Fred’s name to the Adam Mercer Memorial Scholarship, c/o WesBanco of Jackson.
