Lester Eugene Wallace

Lester Eugene Wallace, 83, of Chillicothe, formerly of Vinton County, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born September 24, 1932 in Jackson County, son of the late George and Margaret Nichols Wallace. Lester was married for 61 years to Thelma Marie Remy Wallace, who survives.

He retired from Mead Paper Company in Chillicothe and also worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. Lester was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the 327 Holiness Church in Ray. He was an avid sports fan who also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, feeding and watching birds. Lester enjoyed spending time with his family and attending church.

In addition to his wife, Lester is survived by his children, Cheryl (Bill) Vicars of Wellston, David E. (Nancy) Wallace of Findlay, Ohio and Debra (Jim) Tribby of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Benjamin, Patrick, Scott and Jeffrey Wallace and Sarah and Mike McCorkle; great-grandchildren, Carson and Karlee McCorkle and a brother, Ivan (Naomi) Wallace of McArthur.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Wallace, Garnet Lacy, Elsie Manring, Leona Rodgers, Ethel Atwood, Daisy Penry and Betty Stiles and brothers, Chester, Carl and Billy Wallace and Russell Hill.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with Pastor Jim Harper officiating. Interment will be in Londonderry Cemetery, Londonderry, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, June 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.
