Surrounded by family and friends, John Charles Zimmerman, a 35-year resident of Tucson, AZ and former Wellston resident, passed away at home Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 after a life-long struggle with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

John grew up in Wellston, Ohio, and proudly played first chair coronet for the Wellston High School Golden Rockets Marching Band. After moving to Tucson in 1966, he earned BA and MA degrees from the University of Arizona. He enjoyed a career of service for people with developmental disabilities, eventually achieving the position of assistant residential director of the AZ Training Program in Tucson (ATPT).

John, a diehard AZ Wildcat fan, devotedly followed the university’s football and basketball teams but never lost his loyalty to the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds.

Preceded in death by his father, Charles (Charlie), John is survived by Susan, his wife of 24 years; his mother, Maxine and her husband, John Grierson; his sister, Becky and her husband, Dr. Bob Heitzman.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in February on a date to be announced. A good time will be had by all!

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name to Tucson Community Food Bank or www.zionpark.org are requested.
